Here's the other side. The control horns are screwed in to a piece of 1/16 ply that is simply CAed on top. -jj

The tail assembly is done. in addition to the beefy rudder reinforcements I also prefer aftermarket control horns. These are crazy way more than will ever be needed by the slow stick - better safe than sorry...
Yeah... There are4 screws holding the rudder to the fuse. Mostly its because I didn't like what was left of the screws I had on hand after going thru the rudder foam and 2 pieces of 1/16th ply. There also a piece of bass wood in the tail section to help with all the screws installed back here.

Another part of the basic slow stick I find especially weak is the rudder. I laminated some 1/32" ply to one side all the way up the rudder to help give it strength. Here's the rudder and the assembled slow stick motor mount.

working on Sam's slow stick today. I have learned a lot since starting out in February. I don't like the plastic motor mount dealio - so I'm building one out of wood. Here it is before being all glued up. Model grand plywood is nice stuff. A 1/16th inch and a 1/32th inch sheet can go a long way.

I got a couple Turnigy C35-30 1400kv motors from hobby king the other day. This thing is in my humble opinion a perfect match for the slow stick. Its a bit on the pricey side at 18.20 each - but its 34amp over 300 watts on a 10x5 is crazy enuf power for anything you could want to do plus another pound. I nose dived this into the ground the other day - the 4mm shaft stayed true. The motor is not intended for a slow stick but some model grade plywood a band saw and some super glue and its on there!
